Excursions Around Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer nicknamed "The Golden city", is a city in the Indian state of Rajasthan, Once known as Jaisalmer state it is a World Heritage Site. The town stands on a ridge of yellowish sandstone, and is crowned by the ancient Jaisalmer Fort. Jaisalmer" means "the Hill Fort of Jaisal". Jaisalmer is sometimes called the "Golden City of India" because the yellow sandstone used throughout the architecture of both the fort and the town below, imbues both with a certain golden-yellow light. Jaisalmer, being an arid desert region, is prone to extremes in terms of temperature.

Sam Sand Dunes
Sam Sand Dunes is the best locales to experience the Camel safari along with the scenic beauty of the location. It is situated 42 kilometres from Jaisalmer and it is one of the chief attractions of excursion. The excursion is entrenched with a lot of enthusiasm. And in the evenings the tourists can enjoy the local Rajasthani folk songs and dance.

Khuri Sand Dunes
Khuri Sand Dunes in Khuri village is located 40 kms from Jaisalmer. The Khuri Sand Dunes is another excursion famous for its changing and uneven Sand Dunes and for camel rides and this changing sand dunes are about 80 metres height with mesmerizingly beautiful sun setting between the dunes. And to add to the beautiful Sun set and night you will be served dinner here under the black blanket full of white twinkling lights.

Bada Bagh & Chattris
Bada Bagh or Huge Garden and Chattris that is 7 km towards north of Jaisalmer. Here there is a gigantic dam built by Raja Jai Singh II and completed by his son at Bada Bagh. Though the Bada Bagh (Big Gardens) and Chattris have acquired a strange exquisiteness and old antique look, here we can witness the sculptures and monument of the earlier rulers that was formerly a haven in the grounds of Thar.

Lodhurva
The Lodhurva is 15 kms towards northwest of the Jaisalmer city and it was founded by the Lodra Rajputs. And later in 10th century Lodhurva was handed down to the Bhatti Devaraja. The tourist must visit this place see the remains of the isolated ancient capital-city of Jaisalmer.

Manvar
The Manvar is yet another place to incorporate in your excursion plan and it is famous for its incredible mustard and red chilli fields in the middle of the desert. Pokhran
The Pokhran is famous for conducting nuclear tests in India. It is here that India on 18 May 1974 carried out its first nuclear test. Along with this test, there were 5 more test carried out on 11 May 1998. From Jaisalmer, Pokhran is situated 112 kms and it is also famous for some intriguing mythological legends connected to this place. According to the legends, Lord Rama wanted to dry up the SriLankan seas so he fixed his bow with a powerful arrow that produced immense heat. Others persuaded Lord Rama not to do so; Lord Rama as an alternative fired it into the mythical river Saraswati as an effect the river Saraswati dried out making Pokhran a barren desert.

Kuldhara
The Kuldhara in Jaisalmer is 25 km towards north, Kuldhara is a 400-year old village that was abandoned and isolated but recently it has been re-populated and it is well-known for its Camel treks.
